Dr. Matthew Ikeda

Dr. Matthew Macey-PT, DPT, OCS

Born and raised in San Francisco, I grew up playing basketball and baseball, which sparked my love for sports and staying active. My journey into physical therapy, however, began through my own experiences with injuries. After undergoing multiple knee surgeries throughout high school, I experienced firsthand how frustrating it can be when an injury keeps you from doing what you love. Through rehabilitation, I discovered the impact physical therapy can have, not only in helping someone recover but also in restoring their confidence and ability to perform. Those experiences taught me perseverance, discipline, and consistency, along with a deeper appreciation for the freedom to move well.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from San Francisco State University, where I also worked as a personal trainer and gained experience in various physical therapy and sports settings. I went on to earn my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Southern California (USC), followed by completing USC’s Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency and becoming a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS).

Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide range of individuals, from weekend warriors and active adults to collegiate and professional athletes competing at the highest level. These experiences have shaped my approach to physical therapy, combining individualized rehabilitation with strength and performance training to help people return to the activities they love.

What I enjoy most about being a physical therapist is seeing people return to their sports and activities with a renewed sense of freedom and confidence. To me, getting out of pain is just the beginning. I want my patients to feel confident in their bodies, build the strength to meet the demands of their activities, and enjoy moving without constantly worrying about their injuries. Whether that’s returning to competitive sports, getting back into the gym, or simply staying active, my goal is to help people move well and perform at their best.

Outside the clinic, I enjoy golf, tennis, basketball, running, and recently experimenting with CrossFit and HYROX-style training. When I’m not at the clinic or on the golf course, you’ll likely find me at Disneyland with my wife and our daughter, Mila, or traveling together as a family!
